The Pitcher Plants are native to North America. They have modified leaves that form hollow vessels, referred to as pitchers, which capture prey. The structure, shape, colour and embellishments of the pitchers vary considerably from genus to genus. Presumably, luring of prey is accomplished by secretion of nectar, coloration, odour and fenestrations of the leaves, although not all of these enticements are utilized by every species.
